A Celebration of Rare Whiskies in Singapore

AUTHOR

Whisky enthusiasts in Singapore are in for a treat as The Malt Affair Volume 8 makes its highly anticipated return on 2 November 2024 at the Amara Singapore Ballroom. Since its inception in 2017, The Malt Affair has grown into a premier event, designed “by maltheads for maltheads,” and this edition promises to be the biggest one yet. With a curated selection of over 400 whiskies from 21 exhibitors, it offers an unrivaled experience for both seasoned connoisseurs and curious newcomers alike.

One of the key attractions this year is the participation of Diageo Rare & Exceptional as an official bottler, a first for the event. Diageo will be showcasing some of the world’s most coveted whiskies from iconic brands like Mortlach, Talisker, Lagavulin, and even ghost distilleries such as Brora and the recently revived Port Ellen. This exclusive lineup is sure to captivate collectors and enthusiasts alike, offering them a rare chance to sample some legendary spirits.

Beyond the exhibitors, The Malt Affair Volume 8 will also feature four ticketed masterclasses, headlined by internationally renowned whisky experts. Among them is Dutch whisky authority Michiel Wigman, who will be guiding participants through a tasting of Springbank whiskies, one of Scotland’s most cherished distilleries. Italian whisky specialist Max Righi will also lead three masterclasses, delving into the world of vintage Macallan and rare Islay whiskies, providing a deep dive into some of the most sought-after drams in the industry.

Whisky lovers will also have the opportunity to explore vintage whiskies from the 1950s to the 1980s, along with cult Japanese labels and elusive ghost casks that are rarely seen outside of private collections. With over 70% of the whiskies priced below $50 per 20ml pour, the event ensures accessibility while still offering high-end options that go up to $2,000 per pour for those looking to indulge in rare and collectible spirits.

Tickets are priced at $15 to enter (tastings not included), and attendees are encouraged to bring their own glassware or purchase a Luigi Bormioli snifter glass on-site for $10. Whether you’re there to sip on legendary vintages or discover new releases, The Malt Affair promises an unforgettable experience in the world of whisky.
