Recapping our Rosy Roundhouse Experience

AUTHOR

Taking over Picotin’s plot of land, Roundhouse certainly had big shoes to fill. One crisp evening, we made our way down to the charming stables of Turf City, where Roundhouse was comfortably nestled, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The restaurant is warmly lit and the volume level outdoors is low enough for conversation. Housing a wide array of alcoholic beverages at the bar, Gold 90.5 DJ Vernetta Lopez and her husband Wayne Gladwin maintains a beguiling ambience at Roundhouse, making it one of the better chill-out locations in town.

For starters, we were served the Mediterranean Salad ($18) and Smoked Duck Salad ($19). The first thing that struck us when we saw the menu was its honesty, what we saw was what we got. The Clams in White Wine Soup with Toast ($18) was quite literally, clams doused in white wine broth and served with toast. Overall, the starters were mediocre and unassuming to say the least.

Roundhouse’s highlight is undoubtedly their mains. The Whole Sea Bass ($34) was delightful and not to be missed. Just imagine chargrilled chunks of succulent fish eaten together with aromatic fleshy rice. This dish is a wonderful and tasty mix of textures.

For our next venture, we had the Lamb Shank ($38) served with well-seasoned garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus, tomato confit and lamb jus. We loved how the meat just peeled right off the well-marinated shank. Exquisite. Just as pleasing was the toothsome Whole Boston Lobster ($88), which was a gorgeous sight to behold.

We moved on to their pizzas ($16 – $24) with open minds. We found that in terms of tastes, there was nothing new here. The pizzas were too savoury for our liking, but we are cognizant that this may just be our subjective taste buds at work. The only saving grace of Roundhouse’s pizza was perhaps the wood-fired, flaky crust. No harm having additional takeaway options though – the Roundhouse pizza hotline 6466-2466* is available from 5.00pm to 10.30pm on weekdays and 12.00pm to 10.30pm on weekends.
