STREET 50Â at Bay Hotel is just a stone’s throw away from VivoCity and boasts a cross pollination of eastern and western cuisine. For starters, we had the unassuming Prawns and Avocado ($12) served with sour cream aioli topped with fresh sprouts. With just the right amount of sour cream to hold the creaminess of avocado together, the succulent prawns add a playful freshness to the combination.
The Hazelnut Escargots ($14) are soaked in brandy before getting flambéed to the delight of my dining companion. This dish is dinner theatrics at its best as the flames set off the sweet scent of hazelnut in which the luscious escargots were doused in.
Tom Yam Flair ($18) is a prime example of how the east and west are cross-pollinated at STREET 50. The tangy Tom Yam spices well complemented the creamy, Italian pasta. Zesty flavours unleashed by the slipper lobster add another dimension to the dish and easily make this pasta one of my top favourites of their menu.
As you may be aware, National Day is coming soon! To celebrate our nation’s birthday, STREET 50 has specially crafted the Black Pepper Lobster ($50) to be sold from now till 11 August 2013 in conjunction with this joyous occasion.
One of STREET 50’s signature dish has to be the reinvented Lamb Redang ($23) – a generous portion of lamb shank drizzled with a mouth-watering gravvy left us craving for more.
When the Durian Pengat ($8) was served, the particularly ravishing dish was a nice closure for the entire experience. Superficial judgment aside, this creamy durian crepe truly packs a punch as the fresh fibre of the intoxicating durian was comfortably wrapped in the buttery crepe.
