Inside the 2025 amfAR Gala Cannes, Where Glamour Meets Purpose

Each year, amidst the glitz of the Cannes Film Festival, a singular event stands apart—not just for its star power, but for its soul. The 31st annual amfAR Gala Cannes, held on May 22, 2025 at the storied Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, once again brought together the world’s most dazzling names for a cause that continues to demand urgent attention: the fight against AIDS.

Organised by amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, the gala is one of the most successful benefit events in the world, having raised nearly $300 million to date for HIV/AIDS research and treatment. This year alone, more than $17 million was raised through an exhilarating live auction, headline performances, and runway glamour, all in the name of science, equity, and hope.

Hosting the evening was the ever-charismatic Taraji P. Henson, who guided a crowd that included Leonardo DiCaprio, Adrien Brody, Michelle Rodriguez, Colman Domingo, Heidi Klum, Spike Lee, and even tech royalty like Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez. The entertainment lineup kept spirits soaring with powerhouse performances by Duran DuranCiara, and Adam Lambert, who each brought a touch of vintage cool to the Riviera night.

Fashion took centre stage with a James Bond-themed runway show curated by Carine Roitfeld, where models strutted in striking looks that channelled the secret agent’s effortless chic. It was a night where the philanthropic and the fashionable collided beautifully—think Barbara Palvin in Vivienne Westwood, Odell Beckham Jr. in Chrome Hearts, and Taraji P. Henson in a sculptural Gaurav Gupta gown that could have belonged on a Marvel red carpet.

As always, the auction was the heart of the evening’s fundraising. High-stakes bids flew fast for once-in-a-lifetime items: a George Condo painting sold for €1.15 million, while a walk-on role in an upcoming Spike Lee film fetched €400,000. Even the fashion show itself raised over €450,000, proving that style can indeed be a force for change.

But beneath the sparkle and sequins lies amfAR’s unwavering mission: to accelerate the end of the global AIDS epidemic. Founded in response to the crisis in the 1980s, the foundation has funded thousands of studies and supported groundbreaking research worldwide. Events like Cannes ensure the conversation—and the funding—continues, especially as attention shifts to other global health challenges.

In a world where causes often compete for headlines, the amfAR Gala Cannes remains proof that celebrity culture can be mobilised for good. It’s a space where generosity flows as freely as Champagne, and where style, spectacle, and social good align under the stars. This year’s gala wasn’t just a party, it was a promise that the fight is far from over.
