If the international pop industry is anything to go by, boybands and girlbands are back in season. We now live in an era where groups like Fifth Harmony and Little Mix are making frequent visits to the upper tier of the charts.
Now that we can (almost) safely say that Singapore’s music scene is finally heading somewhere, what’s next among the wave of up-and-coming artists? It seems vocal groups are on the horizon, and we already have one coming plainly into view!
Enter SASS – an up-and-coming all-female vocal trio comprising Sophie Zara, Ain, and Sasha M.. Since returning as Senior Vocal Group Champions at the World Championships of Performing Arts held in Hollywood last July, the girls have been writing their own music and generating some buzz in the industry.
On top of the occasional upload on their burgeoning YouTube channel, SASS have just released “Sing Out Singapore“, written and composed by the girls together with producers Judah Lyne and Haramain Osman. The track, which comes with an accompanying music video, was originally submitted as an entry for MediaCorp’s “The Gift Of Song” competition earlier this year. While it wasn’t chosen as one of the final 3 entries, the song has now become the group’s debut original single.
The girls will also be involved in Lush 99.5FM and Rdio Asia‘s “50 Songs In 50 Days” initiative – where 25 local artists perform 2 songs each in the lead-up to National Day. They will perform together with rapper THELIONCITYBOY on the 13th and 14th July 2015, and videos will be made available via Lush 99.5FM’s YouTube channel here.
