Step Inside The Initial Sama, Singapore’s New Wellness Haven

A heritage property at 26 Evans Road has been transformed into a haven of holistic well-being with the launch of The Initial Sama, a new co-living brand under Cover Projects. Coinciding with Global Wellness Day, on 14 June, the property will be hosting a curated series of wellness programs, within the sanctuary, inviting both its guests and the public into an urban living zone, shrouded by a serene, restorative atmosphere, that emphasizes a reconnection with nature, self and community.

Co-founders of Cover Projects, Lim Keong Wee and Victoria Loh, have launched their latest development, The Initial Sama which draws from their combined backgrounds, blending multiple facets of architecture, design and hospitality. “Sama” in Sanskrit signifies “balanced” or “well-maintained,” a concept that Lim and Loh aim to embody through thoughtfully curated spaces and services. This ethos is expressed through a considered blend of retro-modern design elements, biophilic features, with warm and natural furnishings, all selected to create a calming, nature-inspired living environment.

Cover Projects, also behind the cosy co-working space, Thank You Come Again (“TYCA”), is a homegrown real estate management company, that won the highly competitive tender for the heritage site last October, outbidding several major co-living operators for this coveted heritage enclave, walking distance away from central locations, Newton and Orchard. Managing Director, Lim, expressed that after extensive feasibility studies were conducted, was confident in the project’s viability and potential to redefine wellness living in Singapore.

The property will house 74 serviced apartments, including studios and one- and two-bedroom units, each thoughtfully designed to provide a balance between comfort and wellness. The interiors draw inspiration from nature, incorporating sustainable materials, organic textures, and warm, neutral tones to foster a sense of calm and tranquility. For residents, the focus on wellness extends beyond the living spaces to include communal areas that encourage relaxation, reflection, and connection.

Key amenities at The Initial Sama include dedicated wellness zones, such as yoga studios and meditation spaces, which are complemented by lush, landscaped paths, near the bountiful Botanical Gardens, that provide residents with pockets of greenery in the midst of the city. A curated wellness programme will also be introduced, offering classes in sound healing, breathwork, and mindful movement, designed to help residents reconnect with their bodies and minds.

For business travellers and remote workers, The Initial Sama will feature versatile workspaces that promote focus and creativity. Equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi and ergonomic furnishings, these work zones are positioned to serve as peaceful retreats from the hustle and bustle of the city, allowing residents to maintain productivity without compromising on well-being.

The Initial Sama is about creating a holistic living experience that encourages residents to reconnect with themselves, each other, and the world around them, as noted by Lim, whose architectural background has informed the property’s design philosophy. Further adds that the emphasis on wellness aligns with broader global trends, particularly as people increasingly seek out living spaces that promote balance and mindfulness.

While the focus is on long-term residents, The Initial Sama will also welcome short-term stays, at around SGD 350 per night, making it accessible to digital nomads, corporate guests, and those seeking a restorative retreat within the city. With flexible leasing options and personalised services, the property aims to cater to diverse lifestyles, ensuring a seamless and stress-free living experience.

As the world emerges from years of pandemic-induced isolation, Global Wellness Day’s #ReconnectMagenta theme feels especially timely. The Initial Sama’s event on this significant date underscores its commitment to fostering well-being and connection in every aspect of its offerings, positioning it as a contemporary urban sanctuary where wellness is more than just a concept—it’s a way of life.
