Orchard Road’s 2024 Christmas on A Great Street promises a festive lineup filled with new attractions, nostalgic highlights, and community engagement. Marking the light-up’s 41st year, the Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA) is enhancing the experience with a “firefly garden” of vertical beams to mimic fireflies and a nod to the area’s historical orchards. President Tharman Shanmugaratnam will officially launch the light-up on November 9.
New additions include a nightly snowfall show around a 14-meter-tall Mastercard Christmas tree and two Great Christmas Villages with carnival rides, pop-up stalls, and live performances. An immersive augmented reality show, featuring fireworks and snowflakes, will also light up Hilton Singapore Orchard’s facade. The festival will bring back the Christmas Eve Street Party, which drew over 130,000 people in 2023, closing a section of Orchard Road to cars for a night of celebrations, food trucks and a DJ-led countdown.
Highlighting Orchard Road’s vibrant nightlife, ORBar on A Great Street introduces a bar-hopping passport, allowing adults to redeem signature cocktails at select bars along the street. For families, the festival offers kid-friendly activities like the Flying Dumbo ride, craft beer tastings, and snowfall shows.
To promote sustainability, ORBA is reusing 2023 decorations, donating lights to Equal, an animal therapy charity, and planting 100 trees along Orchard Road with National Parks Board’s support. ORBA will also host special bus tours for underprivileged seniors, healthcare and migrant workers during the season.
This year’s light-up hopes to attract four to five million visitors, as ORBA Chairman Mark Shaw expressed: “For four decades, the light-up has brought joy to millions, showcasing Orchard Road as more than just a shopping street.”
