Back for the fifth year, Affordable Art Fair will yet again showcase a record line-up of galleries, new artists and art-related initiatives designed to underscore the fair’s ‘art for everyone‘ mantra.
This year invites a staggering amount of 107 galleries, both local and international, that will showcase more than 950 artists in diverse selection of contemporary artworks, across a variety of styles from abstract to figurative, and mediums including paintings, sculpture and photography.
107Â galleries sure does seem like a lot so we’ve narrowed down the list to five exhibitions/activities that are worth the extra attention.
1. YOUNG TALENT PROGRAMME (YTP)
If you’re not already familiar with the Young Talent Programme, it is an initiative of the Affordable Art Fair Singapore, in collaboration with ION Art. Through this initiative, they have successfully launched 15Â artists, below the age of 35, into the spotlight since the competition began two years ago.
This year’s exhibition will showcase the works by Hilmi Johandi, whose large-scale paintings and series of video installations in Framing Camellia: Fragmentation of Frames explore the formative confrontation between painting and film; Noor Iskandar showcases Paradie, a photographic series based on the cathartic synthesis between the search for happiness balanced against the eventuality of mortality and Lennard Ong who presents Filament Forest, an enigmatic three-dimensional installation of linear sculptures produced by algorithm based autonomous robotic technology.

2. UNDER $1000 WALL
What is this? The title says it all: the good people at Affordable Art Fair have specially curated a spot bringing together contemporary artworks in various styles and mediums in one location so that visitors can take their pick to fit their budget. (Yes, and yes.)
3. CHILDREN’S ART STUDIO
As a fun-filled family event, there will be something for the little one’s (preferably aged 4-12) as well. A series of free workshops will be held at the Fair’s Children’s Art Studio to aid in the growth of a new generation of artists. Essentially, you would have the ability to get the little ones preoccupied with getting messy while you can appreciate and perhaps purchase artworks to deck out your crib.
4. ART EDUCATION PROGRAMMES
Can we here an amen for talks and workshops? Art talks will offer advice on various topics without confusing jargon, practical tips on starting a new collection and framing a newly bought artwork, making it easy for non-artsy fartsy nomads like you and I to pick out something we love without having to worry too much about what to do after we bring the new baby home.
5. AFFORDABLE GASTRONOMY
There’ll be an ‘unforgettable’ food and beverage experience brought to us by SAVOUR. (nuff’ said.)
