Style Spoken || Rihanna in the Sky with Diamonds

AUTHOR

Last week-ish saw Beyonce dropping her surprise album chock full of new concepts that redefined the way we listen to music and did waaaay better than Lady Gaga’s over-the-top ARTPOP. Now entertainment’s favourite Pop/R&B princess Rihanna is fronting Balmain’s Spring 2014 campaign.

The campaign is framed by Fashion big names Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin AKA Inez & Vinoodh who have shot other sizeable covers and campaigns from Vogue to Miu Miu to Lady Gaga.

While Rihanna’s dominating the charts with a ‘Monster’ collab with Eminem, we aren’t surprised by this – from her Balmain wardrobe choices during her Diamonds World Tour to Olivier Rousteing’s (Balmain’s creative director) public admiration for Rihanna’s power-packed personality – it was only a matter of time before Riri announced her Balmain-ation via Twitter.

“In front of the camera, she makes you feel like she is the only girl in the world. When the woman that inspires you wears your creations, your vision feels complete.” – Olivier Rousteing

The campaign’s creative direction went to Atelier Franck Duran, Duran has been Balmain’s go-to since 2008 and has also directed for Giuseppe Zanotti as well Isabel Marant, while the campaign’s style identity remained with Rihanna’s personal stylist Mel Ottenberg who also styled Riri for her ‘Monster’ video.

The collection seems to draw inspiration from the 80s with edited high-necked pull-overs, structured shoulders, cinched waists, off-shoulder tops, sweet leather jumpsuits, flourished Bomber jackets and chunky accessories. While the 80s were a horrific fashion throwback, Balmain just might have brought vintage sexy back with Rihanna.

We Found Love in the teaser pics and wish she would release the rest of it Right Now but we will be patient for the full campaign in January 2014. We hate that we love her but will remain Faithful that she is here to Stay as the Only (bad) Girl that won’t Stop The Music.
