Cult NANO-MUGEN FES. Lands in Jakarta for the First Time, And It’s Stacked

AUTHOR

Jakarta’s about to get loud. For the first time ever, NANO-MUGEN FES., the cult Japanese music festival helmed by alt-rock icons Asian Kung-Fu Generation, is going international—landing at Ecopark Ancol this 24–25 May 2025 with a lineup that slaps.

First staged in Yokohama in the early 2000s, NANO-MUGEN has long been a love letter to indie rock heads across Japan, with a reputation for tight curation and even tighter riffs. This year, they’re bringing the noise to Southeast Asia, and the lineup is pure fire: think Kana-Boon,  ELLEGARDEN, and more regional heroes in a genre-mashing sonic melting pot.

But this isn’t just about the music, it’s a full-blown cultural immersion. With visuals led by cult illustrator Yusuke Nakamura (you’ve definitely seen his iconic covers), the festival will reimagine Indonesian and Japanese mythologies through a modern rock lens. Expect visuals that hit as hard as the drums.

This two-day rager isn’t just a concert. It’s a cultural refresh. For the first time, NANO-MUGEN is planting roots beyond Japan, bringing fans together from across Asia in one genre-bending, sweat-drenched celebration of identity, mythology, and music that speaks way louder than words.

Tickets? Already moving. Flights? Time to book. Jakarta’s calling.
