Popspoken Picks: Mid-Year Tunes to Jive To

Looking for new music releases to add to your June playlist? From electronic to acoustic, Popspoken has picked five fresh tracks by artists from Asia and all around the world for your enjoyment.

Cindy Zhang ft. LambC – ‘Confession’

Asian American musician Cindy Zhang teams up with South Korean indie singer-songwriter LambC for this bedroom pop track about a relationship riddled with insecurities and unsaid words. San Francisco-based Zhang has made a splash in countries such as Indonesia, Taiwan and Thailand through her debut album ‘Voice Memos’, while Berklee-educated LambC produces for other artists such as Jamie and Lee Min Hyuk in addition to releasing his own songs such as ‘Love like that’.

Sorenza Nuryanti – ‘Reality Show’

Following up from the February release ‘Sensitive’, Sorenza launched the teenage heartbreak anthem ‘Reality Show’ in May. The alternative pop track also came with a funk version as a form of tribute to her father, who is a fan of the genre. The Indonesian-Belgian singer rose to fame through a 2018 appearance on ‘The Voice Kids Indonesia’ where she performed an original song titled ‘Casual Girl’ and went on to release singles such as ‘Pink Jeans’ and ‘Dear Mom and Dad’.

French Kiwi Juice ft. Toro y Moi – ‘A Moment Of Mystery’

The French multi-instrumentalist gears up for the release of his upcoming second album ‘V I N C E N T’ with the languid single ‘A Moment Of Mystery’, which he co-wrote with Toro y Moi and Anthony Ferraro. “I ended up writing about the moments of desire and the tension we feel when we’re away from loved ones,” Toro y Moi says. “I want the listener to feel as if things are open-ended with the person on the other side.”

MYRNE – ‘Circles’

‘Circles’ is a part of the Singaporean producer and DJ’s titular EP, which was conceived as an attempt to find hope and stillness amid the turmoil of the world. Aside from steady solo work and performances at festivals like Tomorrowland and HARD Summer, the 27-year-old has also created official remixes for Lauv, Martin Garrix and Jai Wolf.

Gentle Bones – ‘thank you’

The beloved singer-songwriter and Forbes 30 Under 30 lister is finally making his first mark as an entrepreneur with the newly founded label Yung Lee Records. The EP ‘the art of thanking yourself’, featuring the lead single ‘thank you’, is the first release coming out from the label, with many more being promised to follow this year.
