[Laneway Festival Special] #supportlocal: Local acts featured in 2014’s lineup

There are many things we’re proud of and the local music scene is one of them.

Just when we thought there’ll be no more reason to get hyped about 2014, we were dreadfully wrong. In fact, we’re already starting to get another wave of pre-festival chills. So get your backpacks and snapbacks checked because next year’s Laneway Festival Singapore is going to be mega packed with acts you won’t want to miss.

Not too long ago, we received brilliant news that three more acts were going to be added to the already flippin’ fantastic Laneway ’14 lineup which includes Frightened Rabbit, HAIM, Jagwar Ma and CHVRCHES. However, we didn’t realise that the bands added to the lineup were all homegrown favorites! They are emerging electronic act Gema, soulful songstress Vandetta and super band The Observatory.

FYI, 2014 will be the first year Laneway Festival will debut a third stage just for local acts to perform alongside the international lineup. “We have always wanted to showcase local talents since we started here in 2009. This year, with the addition of a third stage, we finally had the room to actually do it. These three acts I picked personally are all truly worthy of their position in this incredible group of artists.” says co-founder Danny Rogers.

Audio-visual collective Syndicate‘s Vandetta and Gema both produce electronic music, however Vandetta has a significantly darker and soulful sound. This will also be the first time Vandetta will be be debuting songs from her EP in a festival this big.

The Observatory are by far the most established out of the three acts and have came a very long way. The group formed in 2001 and have been sharing everything from folk electronica to dark wave both regionally and internationally. We’ve caught a few of their sets a few times and it is safe to say this group is a supergroup to be reckoned with. Their latest release CATACOMBS serves up hauntingly beautiful tunes that will penetrate all forms of emotional barriers and hopefully that’s how they’re going to leave us after their set at Laneway next February.

We’re not only incredibly psyched to see what these acts have installed for us, but we’re also really happy to be experiencing so many first time’s next year. (Spread the fuzzzzz.)

Do stay tuned for more saucy Laneway Festival interviews and festival related articles! Till then, save as much as possible because next year is packed with wicked festivals happening right here in our tiny red dot. (This too unreal.)
