Italian-Mediterranean degustation delights at Casa Pietrasanta

The charming restaurant, which serves authentic Italian fare with a Mediterranean twist, was established in 2008 by two Italians. Pietrasanta which was first located at Portsdown Road, now occupies a larger space on the first-level of Fusionopolis mall at One-North. The new, cosy 20-seater offshoot, which caters to its loyal followers, is named Casa Pietrasanta and is located at the second floor, one escalator up of the same mall.

Why Pietrasanta? The founders fell in love with the historic capital tucked between the endless Tierreno Sea and the breathtaking Apuan Alps; and wanted to bring their passion for authentic Tuscan cuisine to customers, whom they now call friends. Whilst Ristorante Pietrasanta serves an ala-carte selection, only 3 or 4 course degustation menus are available at Casa Pietrasanta for both lunch and dinner.

For our appetiser, we opted for the Seabass Carpaccio, dressed simply with pink peppercorn, lemon zest, and Tuscan extra virgin olive oil as part of the 3-course lunch menu. The zing from the lemon tingled our tastebuds, brightened up the dish and whet our appetites for more to come.

We chose something more indulgent for our mains: the Guanciale di Manzo. A succulent beef cheek slow-cooked paired beautifully with the punchy, slightly acidic green sauce. If you are hungry, order an extra side of carbohydrates to go along with this. Of course, what is an Italian restaurant without its pasta options, such as the Risotto Escargot and Linguine Vongole e Bottarga – definitely will return to try these.

Finally, to round off our meal, we had Sharon’s Granita, a lovely lychee granita with prosecco jelly and roselle syrup. Other items that you can select include the apple crumble and a melt-in-your-mouth milk chocolate Gianduiotto served with luscious Amarena cherries and cream sauce.

To sum up our experience, we certainly were intrigued by Pietrasanta’s launch of a smaller, more intimate dining space. Definitely all-in favour for the trend of full-service restaurants leaning towards more intimate private dining settings. If you are in the Buona Vista area and are in the mood for something moderately fancy yet affordable, Casa Pietrasanta is a gem worth checking out.

This was an invited tasting.
