Located at the nook of century-old Ann Siang Road, The Club presents a charming getaway option from the bustle of Singapore. Like the preserved shophouses along its street, The Club retains its rustic facade, while its handsome interior charms one with detailed and lavish design.
A newly refurbished boutique hotel, The Club was recently repackaged and reopened to offer in-house dining and drinking options, facilitating a swanky getaway for anyone seeking respite from familiar local surroundings.
An intimate whisky bar is nestled in the basement of The Club. B28 is armed with an expansive collection of whiskies that you haven’t tried, and is occasionally enlivened by an adept jazz band.
At sunset, its rooftop bar and grill come alive as a popular watering hole. Teeming with Latin vivacity, Tiger’s Milk is one of few restaurants in the region to offer both authentic Peruvian delicacies as well as cavalcade of Peru-inspired cocktails, such as the Pisco Sour and the Piscorinha. Standout offerings include Lamb Heart on skewers (which tastes better than it sounds) and Peruvian-style yuzu- and giner-marinated salmon, while the undisputed champ of Tiger’s Milk’s alcoholic concoctions is its Coco con Pisco, which is served in a fresh coconut.
Having enjoyed years of acclaim on Dempsey Road, The Disgruntled Chef’s new foray within the premises of The Club is nothing short of spectacular. Exotic dishes like it Crispy Beef Short Ribs are flawless, while its founder and executive chef Daniel Sia, who has been described by tabloids as a “culinary genius”, can make magic with the simplest ingredients, as demonstrated in his Chicken Pot Roast. The Disgruntled Chef’s Twice-Cooked Kurobuta Pork is also a divine must-try, as well as the Wagyu Beef Carpaccio, which is perhaps one of the best done carpaccios in Singapore. The dimmed lighting and ambience of The Disgruntled Chef exudes the allure of a 1920s film, while its bartenders’ skills with classic cocktails too cannot be faulted.
While a recluse has the option of ordering in from these eateries and bars, he or she may also dine in Mr & Mrs Maxwell‘s at the inn’s lobby, which offers local and international favourites like Chendol and Fish n Chips, albeit each endowed with the chef’s own quirky spin.
Each plied by specially imported bath accessories by Bamford, lined with an assortment of classic books, and embellished by a Tivoli radio, the main attraction of The Club’s 20 guest rooms is arguably its Hypnos bed, which the Queen of England announced as her favourite, and is very likely to send you into deep slumber upon sinking into its sheets. Pull down the blinds of The Club’s vintage shophouse windows, and one’s room becomes the perfect hideaway.
