United Women Singapore (“UWS”) led by Ching Ne Tan, is more than just a non-profit, it is a vital force driving the conversation around gender equality and women’s empowerment in Singapore. From educational programmes that champion young girls in STEM to advocacy efforts against violence, UWS has been at the forefront of social change, partnering with both public and private sectors to create a more inclusive society.
They’ve consistently championed causes that highlight diverse communities and pressing social issues. On International Women’s Day, UWS teamed up with Aidha to host a crowdfunded luncheon to celebrate the work of Foreign Domestic Workers (FDWs), recognising their courage and resilience under the theme ‘Be Bold for Change.’ The event at United World College Dover featured live music, a festive lunch, a STEM workshop by the Girls2Pioneers campaign, financial literacy games by Aidha, and a personal grooming workshop by Benefit Cosmetics. This initiative further underscored UWS’s mission to uplift women across all walks of life.

This March, they also spotlighted environmental sustainability in their latest initiative, aligning their fundraising efforts with circular economy principles. It’s a move that underscores UWS’s commitment to not only empowering women but also creating a more conscious and equitable world.
Now, they’re gearing up for their annual flagship event — the UWS Gala, happening on 6 September 2025 at the opulent Island Ballroom, Shangri-La Hotel. With a formal black-tie dress code, the evening promises to be a compelling blend of philanthropy and impact, bringing together influential voices and generous hearts under one roof. Their upcoming campaign, ‘Buy-To-Save’ held in a recurrent fashion, supporting the circular economy whilst fundraising for a good cause, is happening on 23 – 24 May, and is not to be missed.
Past events have featured powerful dialogues with the likes of Kara Owen, Arianna Huffington, co-founder of The Huffington Post, the founder and CEO of Thrive Global, Peter T. Grauer, the chairman of Bloomberg in chat with an editor at Bloomberg, and Alison Loehnis, formerly from Net-a-Porter. This year’s speaker panel is expected to be just as inspiring. All funds raised will go directly towards sustaining UWS’s local programmes, furthering their mission of fostering a gender-equal society where every woman and girl can thrive.
