Perspectives Film Festival: Singapore Filmmakers Helm Workshops This October

In the lead-up to Perspectives Film Festival happening from October 15 to 18 at the National Museum of Singapore, two pre-festival workshops look set to provide a platform for Singapore’s filmmakers to share their tales with the world.

Wee Li Lin, one of Singapore’s most prolific filmmakers, will chair a dialogue on her journey from making shorts to features this coming Oct 3. She is behind films such as Gone Shopping (2007) and Centrepoint Kidz (2015) and received the Honorary Award in the 2nd Singapore Short Film Awards in 2011 for her body of work.

Then a week later on Oct 10, two filmmakers that are bursting onto the scene will be showcasing their works and engaging audiences in a post-show dialogue.

Shane Lim, who swept three accolades at this year’s National Youth Film Awards including Best Direction, will be presenting his award-winning film November. Han Fengyu, who won the top Best Fiction award at this year’s Singapore Short Film Awards, will be presenting his award-winning film Last Trip Home. Both filmmakers graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Diploma in Film, Sound and Video. The post-show dialogue will be anchored by veteran producer Juan Foo.

With both names on the rise in the short film circuit, the dialogue will be an eye-opener for fellow compatriots eager to find out stories from filmmakers who have taken their first stab at the big league.

The film fest is also chock-a-block with events, with the fest closing in a dialogue by Michael Bremer, director of student programmes at the American Pavilion (AmPav), the centre of activity for the Cannes Film Festival. Bremer will share insights into the much-lauded fest as well as tips and tricks for students to learn from the AmPav programme while being attached to the day-to-day operations of running one of the most talked-about film festivals of the world.

With so much packed in and a stellar line-up of films revolving around transition including Bahman Ghobadi’s “Turtles Can Fly” (featured photo), make yourselves free to attend this fest and open your eyes to a world of wonder.

(Psst: We have a Facebook contest until Sat, Oct 3, to win a pair of tickets to attend #PerspectivesFF! Hint to win: Read this article very carefully. Enter here!)
