Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Greater China, Timothy Xu, upon announcing the re-signing of Nana called her “a rare blend of musical talent, artistic curiosity, and cultural impact.” He added: “From a cello prodigy to an accomplished music creator, she has come a long way over the past decade, and at just 25, her future holds immense potential. We are delighted to welcome her back to Universal Music and look forward to supporting her as she explores new creative horizons while strengthening her cultural influence and commercial success across both local and international markets.”
For Nana, the move feels both personal and symbolic. “It’s been ten years since I released my first album with Universal Music. Now at 25, reconnecting with the label makes this moment even more meaningful — it’s the best birthday gift I could have wished for,” she said. “With UMG’s global platform, I hope my music can reach more audiences around the world, resonate across cultures, and lead me to discover new creative forms of artistic possibilities.”
Nana first signed with Universal Music China at the age of 15 and released her debut classical album 15, which went platinum across Asia. In 2017 she became the first artist from the Greater China region to collaborate with Disney on Cello Loves Disney, reinterpreting beloved Disney songs through cello. Beginning in 2020, she transitioned fully into singer-songwriter territory with the EP trilogy NANA I, II & III, followed by her first English-language album Live Todayand Chinese-language album The Star. Her latest cello EP Love Letter — widely viewed as her “25” project — showcases original compositions and sold out immediately on CD and vinyl pre-orders.
Raised in an artistic family, Nana entered the Curtis Institute of Music at 13 on a full scholarship and later studied contemporary music at Berklee College of Music. With more than 50 million social media followers and a Forbes “30 Under 30 Asia” nod, she bridges artistic credibility with mainstream influence, positioning her as one of Greater China’s most compelling young artists as she embarks on this new chapter with Universal Music.
