The weekend warrior would love a respite at Sofitel So, which recently opened its doors at the heart of CBD.

Parisian inspired rooms aside, the boutique hotel (part of the French luxury hotel chain under Accorsees Karl Lagerfeld’s input in the form of door knobs and a quaint library at the corner of the ground floor. It also houses an eclectically designed gastro-bar, Xperience, which is helmed by Chef Anne-Cecile Degenne.

Truffle and Foie Gras Siew Mai

Truffle and Foie Gras Siew Mai

Opt for either the XS, XM or XL portions, to fit your apetite. For starters, we had a dish that left everyone eating in stony silence. Why? Because it was just, that good. The Truffle and Foie Gras Siew Mai ($15 for XS, $30 for XM, $45 for XL) was made of well-minced foie gras that lent it a pasty texture, and the touch of truffle, added a nice Western twist to the Chinese dish.

We loved the kooky touches that included a vase fashioned out of a bulb, and the ‘outlandish’ hands in the toilets that double up as bag holders. Although we must add that the butt-grabbing chairs were a bit too ‘forward’ for our palette.

Another must-try from Xperience’s Asian x Western fusion menu is the Lobster and Scallops Laksa Risotto. Luxuriant coconut foam is drizzled around the island of rice, which was, in itself a cool mix of freshly seared scallops and pearls of rice that were well-coated in a decadent laksa sauce. Divine.

Looking for a new place to imbibe and wind down after a stressful meeting? Bring your girl friend and enjoy daily 1-for-1 cocktails and wines from 4pm to 7pm at the Xperience Bar. Lads, sad to say, this offer is for ladies only.

This was an invited tasting.
