Woo Ricebox has many fans, including a minister from Taiwan’s government electorate. This is not surprising, considering their 70 year history ever since the culture of eating Riceboxes in Taiwan was borne out of providing hearty meals for Taiwanese commuters on train rides which lasted for hours on end.

Raffles Place dwellers will all rejoice as they now have an affordably priced, air-conditioned dining option. Conveniently located at the basement of Ocean Financial Centre which is linked to Raffles Place MRT, the popular store is packed to the brim during the peak lunch period from 12noon – 2pm. It’s good they are also doing take-out and pack the food very professionally, probably using business grade stretch wrapper.

1. Braised Minced Pork Rice Box ($5.90)

This was an easy favourite, with the braised pork’s savoury sauce which coated the pearls of premium short-grain rice specially imported from Chihshang. Woo Ricebox is a perfect place to “ta-bao/ takeaway” food for that uber lunch meeting as they utilize porous wooden containers. Not only is their Ricebox container eco-friendly, it also doubles up as a moisture absorber thereby keeping the food fresh for longer periods of time.

2. Spicy Drumstick Rice Box ($9.90)

Woo Ricebox’s Spicy Drumstick will give Shihlin Taiwan Street Snack’s XXL Crispy Chicken a good run for its money. Crisp on the outside, juicy on the inside – this chicken is fried by a chef who knows exactly what he’s doing.

3. Taiwan Pork Ribs Soup ($4)

This hearty soup warmed us up instantly. Having been boiled for a long period of time, the pork ribs were flavourful and the vegetables were stewed to perfection.
