7 Adam Seamlessly Pairs Food and Art

7 Adam is housed in a a colonial style bungalow reposed at on a tranquil hilltop. Quiescent surroundings of Adam Park is a perfect place where food and art intersect. Guests are welcome to purchase any of the carefully curated collection of contemporary Asian art displayed around the restaurant. In addition, 7 Adam regularly hosts Hi-Tea with famous artists. Recently, we were invited to attend a talk with Yeo Shih Yun – you can read all about it here.

First up on our menu was the famed 7Adam “Goma” Wagyu Beef Carpaccio, which kickstarted the 6-course meal on a high note and could easily qualify as my favourite dish of the night. The delicately sliced raw Wagyu Beef served with caperberries, parmesan cheese, shallots, chives and goma dressing was spectacular. It tantalized my tastebuds with a burst of flavour which left me craving for more.

The Salad Foie Gras comprised of diced apples, foie gras, figs and pine nuts sauteed with ginger. What stood out was the juicy sweetness of the fruits paired with the smooth, buttery texture of the foie gras which whet our appetite for the rest of the courses.

The Trio of Peppers was a velouté (soup traditionally thickened with egg yolks, butter and cream) of 3 bell peppers. It had a light, refreshing touch because of the freshness of the ingredients used.

Rachmat, 7 Adam’s food and beverage manager took great care of the wine pairing for the night. Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Kabinett of 2011 from Germany was a great palate cleanser because of its flavourful sweetness and gentle touch.  The finishing was smooth without the overwhelming effect of tannin.

Asian Spiced NZ Lamb Racks was marinated with asian spices and pan seared to a medium raw finish. What I loved about this dish was the ease of slicing into the succulent flesh and how effortlessly the chunks of lamb slid off the bone. To top it all off, the lamb was well complemented by a ratatouille of tangy peppers (traditional French stewed dish), sauteed potatoes and served with a touch of rosemary and port wine jus.

Next up was the ‘Teriyaki’ Panko Sea Bass which was garnished with Panko bread crumbs (variety of flaky bread crumb used in Japanese cuisine) served with baby roasted potatotes, sautéed bell peppers and teriyaki sauce. The moisture of the fish was locked in and well-paired with the crispy texture of the bread crumbs. That said, I am not entirely sure about the use of baby roasted potatoes and bell pepers on the side – it was safe, but uninspired as it did not adequately bring out the fresh flavours of the fish.

Ending off the session was a sinful combination of molten lava cake, vanilla ice cream, hazelnut parfait, cocoa soil and pistachio biscotti. My sweet tooth craving was placated by the multitude of saccharine indulgent goodies on the plate. The molten lava cake’s chocolatey goodness is worth a mention as it is comparable to the much raved molten lava cake at P.S Cafe.
