For all you bosses out there, here’s a timely reminder: Secretaries’ Week takes place in the last full week of April, observed on the Wednesday of the full week. A good chance to commemorate administrative professionals for their invaluable contributions, we feel – and also a good excuse to celebrate with some gourmet treats. In line with Secretaries’ Week, FIJI Water will be presenting a special 3-course Secretaries’ Week set menu (S$35++), designed by The Privé Group’s Executive Chef Robin Ho, served exclusively at modern-American diner Roadhouse, right smack on Dempsey Hill (one of our favourite places to roll, may we add)

The three-course meal is a perfect way to savour Roadhouse’s hearty diner-style dishes in a rustic et contemporary setting. The FIJI Water Secretaries’ Week menu starts off with a BBQ Ranch Chopped Chicken Salad, presented with wood roasted corn and peppers, avocado, red onion, chopped tomatoes, feta cheese and chipotle.

I have to admit, I personally am not a huge fan of salads- especially leafy, fibre-filled ones. But as soon as I was served with this dish – Chef Robin Ho’s take on American chopped salad, the interesting combination of sweet and savoury intrigued me, and I just had to take a bite. I was pleasantly surprised when I took my first mouthful – its invigorating freshness and bits of flavor drew me in further. I eventually found myself eating the entire serving, guilty.

The salad made me look forward to the main course, and I was not disappointed. The Philly Cheese Burger is made up of a thick 170-gram Josper-grilled Wagyu beef patty, dipped in melted cheddar and topped with bacon bits and crispy beer-battered onion rings in between homemade sesame buns. The burger is served with a side of root vegetables chips.

I took my first bite of the burger and I had to pause for a moment to appreciate the Wagyu beef patty, which was incredibly tender and seemingly melted in my mouth. The beer battered onion rings above the beef also enhanced the taste of the entire burger.  I also found the root vegetable chips exceptionally interesting – the paper-thin crisps of purple sweet potato chips were a great side to the burger.

After literally devouring both the salad and the main course I have to say that I had barely any space left in my stomach. But who doesn’t have enough space for dessert? The Peanut Butter & Banana Bread and Butter Pudding was a nice finishing touch to the meal. Although it looks rather unassuming, the richness of the salted caramel and vanilla bean ice-cream makes the dessert simply divine.
