Everyone loves dessert. It’s the best part of the meal. But why do we leave it till the very end, when our stomachs are too full to take in anything else? 2am: dessert bar, located at Lorong Liput Holland Village, is a central hub for sweet-toothed Singaporeans who just want some dessert and a good time.
Their menu successfully captures the classics such as a simple chocolate tart, as well as some more contemporary desserts. One of their most popular items is a dish titled “Purple” which consists of a blackberry parfait, lavender marshmallows on a bed of purple potato puree.
Each dish is a creation and each ingredient is carefully thought through. One of their other signature dishes, Kayambe H20, consists of a frozen chocolate mousse topped with caramel sauce and complimented by a cold sorbet to cleanse your palate.
The presentation of each dish also adds to the dining experience. The dessert “Purple” was served to us on a painting of the dish- an idea I had never seen before. There were also splashes of color on the plate making it even more appetizing as the lavender marshmallows contrasted with the dark, rich blackberries.
The first thing that hits you when you enter the restaurant is the edgy and sleek decor. With high stools, lounge chairs and large windows overlooking Holland village, 2am: dessert bar is cozy yet chic.
Founded five years ago by Janice Wong, who is now the head chef, 2am: dessert bar blurs the lines between sweet and savory. Ms. Wong, a bachelor in economics, opted for a last minute career change and began her culinary journey. She has recently been awarded Asia’s best pastry chef by “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants List” sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna.
The prices are also reasonable given that you are being offered gourmet level desserts.
2am: dessert bar is essentially founded on such a creative and unique idea as rarely do we come across a menu with a cheesecake as the main course! So if you’re a dessert person and if you agree that dessert is truly the best part of a meal, 2am: dessert is a must visit but try and book in advance as they get quite busy!
This was an independent visit.
