Singapore’s tourism market is thriving, with over 1 million visitors on our sunny island monthly. Competition is tough too, with a hotel at almost every other turn on our tiny dot. But Lloyd’s Inn seems to have found a niche, by catering to the hip, style-conscious traveller who is looking for a wallet-friendly place to stay.
Lloyd’s Inn has been around for 23 years. To keep up with the times, the boutique hotel recently underwent a revamp and reopened in June 2014 with a renewed focus on zen minimalism, and prides itself as a sanctuary for the weary traveller to kick back. A quick step away from the bustling shopping district, it is home to 34 rooms, and is hemmed with luxuriant foliage.
The Devil is in the Details
The Standard Room has everything you need — complimentary Wi-Fi, bath robes, a trusty hair dryer, custom designed Lloyd’s Inn amenities, a security deposit box and of course, bottled water. For something slightly more luxurious, opt for the Sky Rooms, which houses a spacious shower stall leading into the outdoor area, that opens up to an inviting bath tub for soaking up and admiring the stars.
Step out and take your glass to the dipping pool furnished with deck chairs, simply perfect for doing nothing. Meanwhile, the outdoor roof terrace is a great place to enjoy the piped-in soothing, background music. Although Lloyd’s Inn does not have an in-house restaurant, guests are invited to experience the local food haunts, through thoughtful breakfast tie-ups with Killiney Kopitiam and Freshly Baked that are situated nearby.
An Abode for the Style-Conscious
Barely 2 months since the revamped boutique hotel reopened its doors, it has already poised itself as a stylish destination for tourists. Among others, notable personalities such as Taiwanese-Italian actress Liv Lo, as well as Australian fashion icon Margaret Zhang, have spent time unwinding at Lloyd’s Inn.
On a separate note, for those who were curious about the glamorous patina of the fashion world; the clean faced, doll-like Margaret is far from being a vacuous fashion personality whose life revolves solely around Instagram. She has plenty of realness and sass too. Fashion aside, Margaret enjoyed mucking around in the dipping pool’s pods, and shared with us about how perplexed she was when people recommended that she enhance her small eyes surgically.
We too, agree, that au naturel is definitely the way to go. That, and an overdose of style.
