The Little Black Dress (LBD), commonly dubbed as a wardrobe essential by most mainstream magazines is a favourite with one of the youngest Singapore style bloggers we know, Meera.

Meera, 16 year old fashion blogger

At the moment, I can’t live without a black dress from River Island, sponsored to me by Zalora Singapore. A little black dress is never a bad idea, and I especially love wearing them during the holiday season. It can be simplistic or dressed up, and its versatility makes it timeless.

– Meera Navlakha, Fashion Blogger at Moments with Meera

Popspoken commentary: At 16, Meera is barely legal but that does not stop her from pursuing her passion for fashion. She respects the great Alexander McQueen for the surprise and delight he creates with his  shockingly beautiful creations. For more wearable fashion, Meera digs Alexander Wang, Singapore’s ARC Label, and Raoul. Want to make Meera’s day? Get her the 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli satchel. She loves the beautiful color tones and the fact that it is large enough to carry all her necessities.

Yes, while Meera looks stunning in her LBD, we dare you to bring on the new year by making a fashion resolution to define your own wardrobe staples for 2014!

Susannah Jaffer in Karen Walker

Susannah Jaffer: Topshop Skinny Denim Jeans

Topshop Leigh Skinnies

Va-va-voom: Topshop Leigh Skinnies

I’d probably have to say my wardrobe staple would be my simple pair of Topshop skinny denim Leigh jeans. I’ve had them for years, fit like a glove and are perfect for those ‘what do I wear’ moments. As it is a dark navy blue shade of denim, I can throw them on with some sky high heels for an event, a shirt or printed top and a statement necklace and I’m good to go. I guess they’ve had a lot of wear over the years so they deserve the mention.

–          Susannah, Style Blogger of A Fashionable Leo, Fashion, Hair and Beauty editor of Expat Living (Singapore)

Popspoken commentary: With an eclectic style and a fascination with bold prints and feminine cuts, Suzannah is drawn to many local designers such as Lion Earl, L’ile Aux Ashby, and Saloni Rathor. Unlike typical brands like Celine or Hermes, Suzannah generally prefers less mainstream designer bags and is drawn towards vintage buys. For instance, she just purchased a black leather and suede Zac Posen bag from The Outnet and managed to snag a Gucci Bamboo bag for under $150 from StyleTribute.com. Say whaaat?

Zean Vo in Fleamadonna and Injury

Zean Vo: Classic Black Blazer

Velvetwist up your classic blazer: Twisted Sisters Greata Velvet Blazer

Velvetwist up your classic blazer: Twisted Sisters Greata Velvet Blazer

The classic black blazer is truly saviour for all occasions, when you do not have much time or ideas to style your outfits. I can have it to work then button down my inner shirt to go for a party with friends in the evening. It also goes well with mostly everything to pull out such different looks: from formal to casual chic, to even classy and sexy. I think every girl should own at least one of them.

–          Zean Vo, Founder & Editor, STATE OF ZEANVO, “The Singapore Fashion Blog”

Popspoken commentary: Being one that loves photography, Zean cites Mary Katrantzou as her favourite designer, as “her designs apply beautiful photography into prints, making her clothing pieces of art”. Zean also wishes it could be chillier in Singapore so that she can step out in a pair of gorgeous knee boots she is coveting at the moment – Don’t we all?

Joan Chang: The Classic Glamboyant Bag

Make a statement: Saben's Antoinette clutch is chic and sophisticated

Make a statement: Saben’s Antoinette clutch is chic and sophisticated

Every woman would own a classic handbag.  From the YSL CHYC to the Chanel 2.55, these classic IT bags (normally black) are The Bags that goes with every outfit, from casual jeans to evening gowns, and even swimwear – so much so that you can simply grab ‘em off the shelf and head out.

For me, I don’t own a 2.55 nor a classic black clutch, but I do own a range of statement-making bags I use depending on occasion, from rocker-chic to boyish briefcase to baby handbags. As my wardrobe comprises many blacks, nudes, and neutrals, a statement-making bag is a must-have. This is The Bag, that is, aside from being knock-proof, rain-proof, and scratch-proof, is so outrageous to the point that it instantly jazzes up any outfit. I call this the Classic Glamboyant Bag.

Skii Chung: The Coat For-All-Occasions

Ivory Blue Coat from Bimba Y Lola

Dress up, dress down. Cold, hot. This coat can see you through all seasons, and would definitely be more worth your time than fair-weathered friends – we kid. Bimba Y Lola is our new staple this season as we love all things quirky. The Spanish brand has undergone a huge revival with this season’s even quirkier selection of patterns, prints and statement necklaces.

Joyce Quah: The Versatile any-where-ther cut-out boot

Step up: ASOS AFTER ALL Leather cut-outs will bring you places

Step up: ASOS AFTER ALL Leather cut-outs will bring you places

Every girl should own a pair. Slightly heeled, super comfortable and pointy-but-not-too-pointy fashionable, they go well with anything and everything. They are super versatile as well and can tone back a boxy, boyish look with sass or add a little hard edge to a girly, feminine portrait. Because they cut off at the ankle, they also flatter your legs and give them a really svelte shape. I have a black pair that I have worn to death but still look as good as they did when I first bought them. If you need a pair of low-maintenance boots that are comfortable as well as sexy, get yourself one now.

Angela Low: The Cardigan

A (heart)warming affair: Marni Cashmere Cardigan

A (heart)warming affair: Marni Cashmere Cardigan

As the type of person whose daily attire never really strays far from the usual “shirt + high-waisted skirt” equation, the most essential article of clothing I can’t go without is my navy blue Cotton On cardigan. More than just a layer of protection from the cold (though it doesn’t really serve its purpose well), this 2-year-old outerwear is my blanket of security. It’s no flamboyant apparel. It’s downright cheap. But I would wear it day by day until it deteriorates into a mangy half-vest. Metaphorically.

Isabelle Chan: The classic plain white tee

Screen Shot 2013-12-19 at 7.45.32 PM

Effortlessly stylish with a Plain White T.

A plain white tee is the ultimate wardrobe essential, simply because it is the epitome of versatility. Heading out for drinks at the chicest bar in town? Why not dress it up by tucking it into a high waisted pleather pencil skirt and strap on that sexy pair of stilettos. Having a casual brunch with your girlfriends? Throw on your most comfortable boyfriend jeans and a pair of Superga sneakers to complete your look. I’ve gotten a lot of wear out of the plain MUJI tee I purchased years back and they are still going strong, so I guess you could almost say that they are timeless.
