Fashion insiders will know who he is from the myriad of streetstyle pictures that have surfaced about him. To the rest: lawyer up.

At 20 years old, Felix Nai, a student at Temasek Polytechnic’s apparel design course, is the youngest finalist in the annual Audi Star Creation contest, a regional competition among fashion designers to find the next fresh face in Asian fashion. The competition is organised by the Textiles and Fashion Federation of Singapore. He is one of two candidates representing Singapore — the other contestant is Haziq Putra bin Mohamed Razif.

Felix Nai will be presenting his collection, Ephemeral Awakening, which uses the cherry blossom to represent the transitional states of sleep. Expect pastel colours, organza layers, dyed fabrics and voluminous outfits, all stuff that I think you can imagine right about now. Haziq will present a menswear collection called Pursuit To Freedom, which incorporates motifs known to Kelantan life.

The competition has launched the careers of many designers such as Daniel Ngoo who is now chief gown designer at Le Grand and Audrey Lim who is now assistant designer at Raoul. Last year’s winner Chen Zhi Gang has joined Singapore high-fashion label Zardoze and is behind the Panthea collection, which will be shown at Audi Fashion Festival. Audi Star Creation is part of Asia Fashion Exchange, a four-part fashion festival consisting of fashion week Audi Fashion Festival, tradeshow Blueprint and business conference Asia Fashion Summit.

Felix and Haziq join 10 other finalists for the competition, with some coming from countries as far as Korea and Mongolia. The top three winners from Audi Star Creation will stand to win $10,000 in cash from Audi Singapore, a one-year attachment with fashion retailer F J Benjamin and the chance to create a capsule collection that will be showcased at next year’s Audi Star Creation event. Of the top three winners in this year’s show, one will be awarded Audi’s Young Designer Award and will walk away with an additional $10,000 cash prize.
