At the launch of the Kardashian Kollection at Dorothy Perkins’ Wisma Atria outlet recently, the likes of celebs such as Stephanie Carrington, Carol Ong, Jean Danker and May (half of former VJ duo May & Choy) stepped out in Kollection threads but it was not until they congregated next to the blown-up poster of Kim, Khloe and Kourtney were we sold on the idea of a new Kardashian klan (heh) coming out of Stephanie, Carol and Jean. A long queue with avid customers and Kardashian fans was finally let in to the newly-expanded outlet an hour after the media were allowed into the main shopping area to snap off some threads with champagne (named after the sisters, no less) and nibbles in tow.
The new collection launched physically on the same day as Malaysia’s launch at 6 selected Dorothy Perkins stores in Singapore while the global audience got dibs online. About 50 designs from their clothing and handbag collections are on sale, featuring the familiar sight of leopard-printed pussybow blouses, bodycon dresses and blinged-out clutches. Priced from $73 to $129, the collection proved to be highly successful as many pieces were snapped up within the hour. Legit story: I took a picture of a tassel bag and 10 seconds later, it was snapped up right in front of my eyes by an exuberant teenager.
The collection has touches of Kim’s tailored, body-fitting look, Kourtney’s boho-chic look and Khloe’s obsession with printed, edgy material. In person, what really caught our eye were two versions of a bodycon dress that spelled Kim all over it: a black-panel beige bustier wrapped with black lace, plus a monochromatic acid-washed cosmic print on the same bustier shape. These two striking patterns were also seen on a slim-cut, single-breasted blazer, a slouchy long-sleeved t-shirt and a trenchcoat. (For the rain, darling, for the rain.) Also, an asymmetrical zip pleather jacket with a black shearling collar and black jeggings — yes, jeggings, I kid you not — with leather side panelling a little space in the boot area for them ones with them hips were instant loves-and-grabs off the collection.
While we were initially apprehensive about how the collection may come across as too tacky for a brand like Dorothy Perkins, we are sold on the idea that, well, you can dress up like a Kardashian if you want to. Just be sure to get a good push-up bra: most of the slouchy pieces will need some extra support, ehem, from your ladies. And because the Kardashians are as accessible as they are, you can get your Kollection fix at Wisma Atria, Raffles City, Plaza Singapura, Great World City, Bugis Junction and Tampines One. Who said you need to channel some Kimye lovin’ with your other half in town when a shuffle and a Scott Disick skedaddle to your nearest heartland mall is more than enough? (Sorry, westsiders, gotta wait for Jem to come up before your area is cool…)
The Kardashian Kollection is now stocked at selected Dorothy Perkins stores in Singapore. Check out pictures from the launch event on our Facebook album.
P.S. I don’t care what anybody says: that gold folio clutch has to be mine.
