Sir Paul Smith greeted attendees as his flagship store in Singapore opened at the mall-front of Mandarin Gallery on October 16. Paul Smith’s new flagship store will offer a range of men’s and women’s apparel from the main line as well as the Paul Smith London, PS, Jeans and Black Label collections. (i hear the sounds of many gutted passers-by at Mandarin Gallery that night…)

The courtyard of Mandarin Gallery outside the Paul Smith street-facing store was turned into a Brit lawn, with posh cupcakes, logcake-shaped meatloaf and teired trays of endless sweet treats as guests were whisked away into Brit environs (haughty Downtown Abbey re-enactments not included). The label is an impressive one, filled with whimsical floral prints, strong menswear tailoring and a dash of good ol’ Brit pizzazz. Sir Paul himself was looking dapper in a navy blue single-breasted jacket with classic dark blue jeans.

The grey-haired man was looking a tad tired though as he stood inside the store to take pictures with a snaking queue of attendees waiting for their picture perfect moment with the designer. One could tell he tried to put his best smile as he braved more than 90 minutes of incessant photo-posing and small chatter. Sir Paul himself took his leave from the event some 2 hours into the launch graciously through the back door, of course.

Attendees like upcoming fashion blogger Meera Navlakha from Moments with Meera as well as Razor TV journalist Sara Ann K (wearing some gorgeous Jeffrey Campbell shoes, FYI) were part of the crowd soaking up the atmosphere. We also spotted the ever-dapper Kevin Seah from his eponymous menswear bespoke line chummying it up with Sir Paul during the photo-taking session.

Of course, the swag bag was not to be forgotten as guests left with a photographic memento of Sir Paul Smith and a mug with an optimistic message for the year: “Here’s to a bright future; Singapore 2012”. With the rise of flagships in Singapore by regional and international brands, Paul Smith’s entry is another feather is our retail fedoras.

Paul Smith is located at Mandarin Gallery’s mall-front at Level 1.
