Hermes’ Gift of Time exhibition which debuted in Hong Kong has hit the shores of Singapore. Housed in the neoclassical-styled Tanjong Pagar Railway station which is typically closed to the public, the venue and its warm lighting lends grandeur to the 7 rooms of installation art.
Conceptualized by American artist and collaborator of Hermès, Hilton McConnico interpreted time as something surreal, as part of some dreamscape. In McConnico’s words, the “Hermès time does not try to master time but rather offers us the time to see and understand this ever changing world”.
In the room “Stroke of Time”, creative piecing of squares of leather, form the image of a cat, staring back at the caged parrot. In a kitsch fashion behind the caged bird is a Hermes bag which acts as a pendulum, swinging back and forth.
Travel back in time, and nibble on these munchies commonly found in yesteryear. Pop up store “Popaganda” offers an array of delectable flavours, such as the exotic Matcha-Mango and Lychee-Jasmine – definitely one of the most delicious popsicles I have ever eaten, and it’s healthy too with no artificial preservatives or colourings.
Be spoilt for choice as The Plain sets up a make-shift cafe, U Cafe which serves Wagyu roast beef with seeded mustard, brie cheese, cornichons, spinach on ciabatta, minted mochas and more.
Hermes “The Gift Of Time Exhibition” (Singapore) at Tanjong Pagar Railway station from August 1st to 12th, 11am to 9pm. Admission is free.
