MTV Movie Awards 2014: Who Will Win the Clash of Popcorn?

The MTV Movie Awards return for another round on 14 April and this year’s line-up on nominees rattles things up by featuring a mix of popular flicks and contemplative cinema in the same category. Of course, MTV also continues its long-standing tradition of coining some of the wackiest award categories out there. We look into our crystal ball and predict who will walk away with the golden popcorn.

Movie of the Year

12 Years a Slave
American Hustle
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
The Wolf of Wall Street
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – We all know it’s got the perfect formula of a winner: fame, franchise, teen flings and dash of Chemical X (also known as JLaw).

Best Female Performance

Amy Adams – American Hustle
Jennifer Aniston – We’re the Millers
Sandra Bullock – Gravity
Lupita Nyong’o – 12 Years a Slave
Jennifer Lawrence – The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – We volunteer her as tribute to the popcorn gods.

Best Male Performance

Bradley Cooper – American Hustle
Leonardo DiCaprio – The Wolf of Wall Street
Chiwetel Ejiofor – 12 Years a Slave
Josh Hutcherson – The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Matthew McConaughey – Dallas Buyers Club – His lack of shirt will not outshine him this time.

Best Kiss

Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams – American Hustle
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson – Don Jon
Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller – The Spectacular Now
Emma Roberts, Jennifer Aniston and Will Poulter – We’re the Millers
James Franco, Ashley Benson and Vanessa Hudgens – Spring Breakers –
Gone are the days of restraint that gave you same-gender scenes. This year, MTV gives you not one, but two threesomes. Two threesomes that’re fogging up our crystal ball and we declare this a tie. MTV should too.

Best Fight

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues – Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Steve Carell vs. James Marsden vs. Sacha Baron Cohen vs. Kanye West vs. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler vs. Jim Carrey and Marion Cotillard vs. Will Smith vs. Liam Neeson and John C. Reilly vs. Greg Kinnear
Identity Thief – Jason Bateman vs. Melissa McCarthy
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – Orlando Bloom and Evangeline Lilly vs. Orcs
This is the End – Jonah Hill vs. James Franco and Seth Rogen
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Sam Claflin vs. Mutant Monkeys – It-girl plus abs plus more abs equals winner.

Best Scared-As-S**t Performance

Rose Byrne – Insidious: Chapter 2
Jessica Chastain – Mama
Ethan Hawke – The Purge
Brad Pitt – World War Z
Vera Farmiga – The Conjuring – The others brought the fear factor but The Conjuring brought the ratings too.

Best On-screen Duo

Amy Adams and Christian Bale – American Hustle
Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto – Dallas Buyers Club
Ice Cube and Kevin Hart – Ride Along
Jonah Hill and Leonardo DiCaprio – The Wolf of Wall Street
Vin Diesel and Paul Walker – Fast & Furious 6 – After the tragedy that struck the franchise, a posthumous win for Walker with a tribute by Diesel is the only way to go.

Best Shirtless Performance

Sam Claflin – The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Leonardo DiCaprio – The Wolf of Wall Street
Zac Efron – That Awkward Moment
Chris Hemsworth – Thor: The Dark World
Jennifer Aniston – We’re the Millers – In a category usually featuring men, this curious turn of events will mean a win for Aniston.

#WTF Moment

Steve Carell, Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner – Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues
Johnny Knoxville and Jackson Nicoll – Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa
Cameron Diaz – The Counselor
Danny McBride and Channing Tatum – This is the End
Leonardo DiCaprio – The Wolf of Wall Street Because we all saw it but nobody truly saw it coming.

Best Villain

Benedict Cumberbatch – Star Trek into Darkness
Michael Fassbender – 12 Years a Slave
Mila Kunis – Oz The Great and Powerful
Donald Sutherland – The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Anybody who threatens JLaw, queen of the interwebs, deserves to be punished. With golden popcorn.

On a side note, excuse us while we figure out who to punish for leaving Loki out of this category.

Best Hero

Henry Cavill as Clark Kent – Man of Steel
Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man – Iron Man 3
Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins – The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
