Judee Tan: “The Noose Is Coming Back For Season 7”

[UPDATE: January 1, 2014]

A representative from MediaCorp’s Channel 5 has confirmed exclusively to Popspoken that The Noose will be back on April 1 2014, after the premiere date was announced during the Celebrate TV50 countdown party’s live broadcast. In the TV announcement, an image was shown of popular character Barbarella, played by Michelle Chong, with the words “I’m Back”.

Michelle Chong left the show after Season 5 to focus on her career as artiste manager of company Left Profile as well as director of films Almost Famous and 3 Peas In A Pod.

Funnywoman Judee Tan revealed to Popspoken at the MediaCorp Radio Awards that the acclaimed news comedy series The Noose will return to English free-to-air Channel 5 for a seventh season.

This means The Noose is set to tie with Singapore comedy series Under One Roof, which also clocked seven seasons before ending its run in 2003. Another Singapore comedy series, Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd, clocked eight seasons during its run.

Judee was present at the awards ceremony to present the four awards of Radio Personality of the Year — Media’s Choice in the four national languages that radio programming falls under. Judee presented the awards together with Anthony Neely and Michelle Chong, the latter slyly plugging her new film 3 Peas In A Pod while making her introductions.

Judee told us that she has not received the script for the comedy’s new iteration yet but said that filming should happen sometime early next year. She got her big break into television for The Noose’s fourth season after producers spotted her at a skit for annual revue Chestnuts doing an impersonation of infamous beauty queen Ris Low.

At the awards ceremony, Judee was also part of a hilarious video trailer introducing the Radio Personality of the Year — Media’s Choice category criteria. When asked if she considers herself as a funnywoman or if it is a title she feels is too heavy for her to carry, she tussled with this reporter before jokingly conceding defeat.

“Ok lah, I think I’m funny lah,” said Judee.

Judee will also appear in the upcoming Crazy Christmas play by Dream Academy, an annual staple in the Singapore theatre calender. When asked if one of her hilarious characters Dr Teo Chew Moi was going to make an appearance at the play, she said no but assured us that fans will get to see the crazy traditional Chinese medicine doctor “soon”, declining to go into specifics.

It is not known if Judee will reprise her Noose characters Kim Bong Cha and See Yann Yann or will she take on newer roles. Judee is the only female actor left standing in the Noose roster, after Michelle Chong left the series after Season 5 to focus on her film-making and artiste management career.
