MYCA’s first achievement award is name – get this – “Most Awesome Personality I Wanna Be BFFs With”. That’s youth speak for “Golden Achievement Award”.

Comedienne Irene Ang is probably what you would call an overachiever. She is a successful actress, having played in Phua Chu Kang, runs an entertainment and events agency, Fly Entertainment, opened her own café and still manages to squeeze in time to crack a few jokes on Twitter.

The woman of many talents will be honoured at the m:idea Youth Choice Awards when she will be presented with the inaugural achievement award, “Most Awesome Personality I Wanna Be BFFs With”. The award recognises local personalities in the media industry who have proven inspirational to the youths of Singapore through their personal and professional accomplishments. The tongue-in-cheek title is befitting, considering she left guests at last year’s awards show roaring in laughter at her self-depreciating jokes during her presenting set.

Irene started her own stand-up show, The V Conference, which was well-received by critics and the public. The show has spawned subsequent instalments like The Return of the V, The Extraordinary V and The VLEE Conference. She also recently produced the movie Perfect Rivals under AI pictures, Irene’s newest subsidary company.

Such ventures have earned the actress a nomination by Ernst & Young as “Entrepreneur of the Year”, as well as being named one of the “Top 25 Most Powerful Businesswomen of 2008” by The Executive Magazine. Singapore Women’s Weekly Magazine have also bestowed Irene the title of ‘Greatest Women of Our Time 2010’, recognising her achievements and contributions to the local media and arts industry.

She has even dabbled in modeling, having appeared on the runway for label Francis Cheong at the 2011 Audi Fashion Festival.

We think it’s high time Irene Ang got recognised – this is one woman who has worked very head in the entertainment industry and deserves all the support for what she’s pioneered with a dash of Irene’s brand of zany, unabashed humour. Irene will be presented with her award on January 13th at Zouk. No word on whether she will receive a special frisbee award; a framed frisbee is the award given to MYCA winners.
