[UPDATE: January 2, 2014, 7.35pm]
Rozz has confirmed her departure from 987, in a tearful announcement this morning on her The Rude Awakening show.
Her last day is on January 3. Co-host Bobby Tonelli as well as DJ Jeremy Ratnam will go over to Class 95FM. Bobby will chair the twilight love songs belt from 8pm to 12am while Jeremy will host the afternoon show from 2pm to 5pm.
DJs Sonia Chew and Joakim Gomez (of Singapore Idol fame) will host the new morning show on 987. New DJ Kimberly Wang will replace Sonia on the afternoon belt, from 12pm to 4pm on 987. Kimberly won 987’s DJ competition in 2011.
Rozz will go over to Lush 99.5FM to host the evening drivetime belt beginning Monday. Her solo show airs 5pm to 9pm, weekdays.
Lush also adds Malaysian actress Daniella Sya to its permanent weekday roster. Daniella was a part-time Lush DJ and starred in Channel 5 drama Mata Mata. Daniella hosts the new morning show from 7am to 10am.
We half-expected a big shake-up this year from Rozz, the DJ at 987FM who has been holding the fort at the station for quite some time. We just didn’t expect it to come this early.
Rozz announced that she may be leaving the radio station during a press conference Monday for the Celebrate TV50 countdown party with special guest The Wanted. She hinted to attending media that “this may be her last press conference with 987”.
When Popspoken asked a representative from 987 to confirm the news, the person said that the radio station will release an official statement after Rozz makes an announcement on her radio show on January 2. Rozz hinted on Instagram that she will make the announcement at 8am, during her The Rude Awakening show with co-host Bobby Tonelli.
Hints are leading to the possibility that she may join Lush99.5, which spins indie and local tunes. The radio station posted this photo on its Facebook page, indicating that Rozz is part of the Lush family.
Also, Rozz herself went on Instagram to talk about how Lush DJ Vandetta will “break new ground in Singapore radio” with a “brand new sound” on January 6. When Vandetta herself commented on her Instagram account that she is “very much looking forward to this year”, Rozz chimed in with a simple “Me too”.
The 987 representative, who also represents Lush99.5, would not confirm this as well, prompting us to tune into Rozz’s announcement on Thursday to find out more.
When we asked Gold 90.5FM DJ Vernetta Lopez on the Celebrate TV50 red carpet about her reactions to Rozz’s reported departure, she said: “If she’s going somewhere where she can truly let loose and be herself, I say rock it girl and go all the way. She can never be kept in a box.”
