2016 been a pretty good year for lovers of the angst-driven genre. In earlier months, we’ve seen the album launches of Forests, The Caulfield Cult, and a string of other emo bands – and to put the icing on the cake – the organisers from Look Ma, No Hands, and Secret Signals will be hosting a special, Emo-themed party featuring Yellowcard‘s Ryan Key next Tuesday, 17 May!

The party, aptly named #EMONIGHTSG, will see the Yellowcard frontman playing a live DJ set at nightclub Refuge, 79 Circular Road, alongside supporting DJ performances from Disco Hue‘s synth player THIEVVES, and pop-punk outfit The Summer State and post-hardcore band Villes‘ frontman Bryan Ulric.

The event promises a nostalgic throwback to the teenage angst-driven era, with organisers providing a Myspace-themed Photo Booth, a live-request DJ lounge, and a Hopeless Records merchandise booth.

Bryan Ulric, one of the founders of Look Ma, No Hands, says, “The response of the first #EMONIGHTSG was absolutely overwhelming, emotionally and literally. We packed the place out to three times its capacity and we had to turn people away.”

“We’re constantly working on ways to take the following #EMONIGHTSG parties to the next level and we’re glad to (Yellowcard Frontman) Ryan Key on board for this instalment.”

The first edition of #EMONIGHTSG saw emo revellers packed within the vicinity of Koi Izakaya Bar, partying to tunes from mid 2000’s-era emo staples like My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, and Panic! At The Disco.

Tickets are priced at $25, and can be purchased at emonightsgryankey.peatix.com.
