With a gamut of international and local acts holding the fort, Sunshine Nation will put more than a smile on your face this Saturday.

The first-ever local Electric picnic party, Garden Beats, promises to fill your bellies and souls with nothing but the best. Come with your picnic mats, hats, sunscreen, dancing feet and get ready to soak up the greenery at Fort Canning park.

The organizers have engaged local stalwarts Ms Vandetta, DJ Brendon PDJ Seng Wei, DJ KFC and Ming to helm the decks from 1.00 – 5.00pm. Inspired by Björk, the sassy Ms Vandetta (aka Vanessa Fernandez) will show you how to work those vocal chords, in the most enigmatic of ways. Known for her spacey, surrealist tunes, Ms Vandetta is no stranger to the local music scene having performed at the last F1 Singapore Grandprix; and will surely awe you with her robust voice. Godfather of House music Brendon P, has 3 decades of music-mixing under his belt, and has no signs of slowing down. With the presence of these musical driving forces, it is almost certain everyone is going to have a good time.

If that isn’t enough to rev up your party engines, take a chance with MÖWE and “let the sun put a smile on your face” (Chasing Clouds). Truth be told, we hadn’t heard of their tunes before till now, despite them being 2 years young and stealing the show in Europe. Minutes later after sampling their tunes, we are sold. MÖWE is all about executing musical justice to melodic house, to bridge that elusive emotional connection with their audience.

“The fans are what’s most important to us. Why? Because we are all somebody’s fans somehow. Fans ‘make’ us, they are our motivation”

It is no wonder when asked what the most important thing in life is, their response is: Love, love, love. As if saying it once isn’t enough. All the better, for us, though – they’ve put all their love into their music, and we can feel it via the warm, positive vibes floating through the air waves. Stuff that will surely turn your dreary Monday into an upbeat one.

It doesn’t stop there. Also on the Garden Beats lineup is Naxxos, an energetic Austrian duo that’s taking the “four-on-the-floor” genre to new heights with their unique melodic, brass blend of house and soul. With influences from world music, be surprised by their sprightly repository of tunes, which include African-inspired beats and such.

Certainly, the best perk of being an entertainment writer has to be that of discovering new beats. Today, we are floored. Top all of the above with the sassy Stereo Express and Adrian Giordano, and we are quite sure your shoes will be worn out from all that dancing.
