And So I Watch You From Afar: Live in Singapore

Thanks to the good people at Kitty Wu Records, we’ve added another must catch act to your calendar! 2014 is definitely looking to be a great year for music fans and musicians alike. We kicked off the spankin’ new year with French indie ‘gods’ Phoenix last Wednesday at The Star Theatre (Yes, it was phenomenal.) and since then our bodies have been conserving energy for Laneway Festival and the following months to come. Come 28th February, math/ post-rock trio And So I Watch From Afar will be gracing our land to give us an unforgettable gig.

Think post-rock and big names such as Mew, Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky and Caspian are sure to pop right from your mind. On the local side, we have everyone from the now defunct Amateur Takes Control, veterans I Am David Sparkle and new blood like ANECHOIS, 7nightsatsea and Arajua. They may all be playing music of the same genre but they all have very different directions and thus, the sounds created are a tad bit different. ASIWYFA’s sound could be encapsulated into a phrase, it would be poetry without words.

The band’s sound has taken a little tropical twist with their latest album All Hail Bright Futures. There is a new colour scheme in place: new textures, emotions, sounds and voices. The 12-track, 43 minute album is dominated by a sunnier disposition, a positive uplift that more closely matches the euphoria the Northern Ireland trio has been instilling in audiences through their music in a live setting for the last five years. All of these new additions to the ASIWYFA sound are underpinned by their trademark guitar riffs that bliss the musical brain, complemented by the colossal and increasingly expressive rhythm section that comforts as much as it bludgeons.

Continuing the unparalleled pace at which they’ve been touring for over five years now, ASIWYFA have taken their uplifting sound to places other bands could only imagine. Since the release of 2011’s second album Gangs, the band have added China, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus to their already considerably stamped passports.  As well as these far-flung, seldom played places, the band have gigged all over North America and Europe, bringing their total show tally close to 500. The band will be checking off another country to visit this year by playing a show at Zouk on the 28th of February this year. To top it off, their supporting act, sub:shaman will be playing an opening set.

If this doesn’t convince you that it’s going to be great, we don’t know what will. Get your steaming hot tickets here!
