The Heineken Sunrise Ends ZoukOut With a Bang

It’s the 13th time ZoukOut has been organised, and it was nothing short of spectacular with a stellar line-up of DJs including Zedd, Ferry Corsten, Martin Solveig, Alesso, Afrojack and more. As game changers, Zouk introduced a cashless system where you can pay for drinks. What else is different this year is the collaboration between Heineken and the Zouk folks to promote responsible drinking. Rather than get sloshed through the night and wonder where in the world you are the next day – the idea is to be sober enough to catch the ‘Sunrise‘.

Bless our souls, for we got to speak to the legendary Ferry Corsten, a purveyor of social goodness. After hearing the news of the Haiyan disaster which swept away thousands of homes, Ferry launched #DonateAndDance where he rallied international names such as DJ Quintino, Blasterjaxx, Olivier Twizt, Sandro Silva and more to get people socially aware and help out by donating.

Having been in the scene since 1999, Ferry has been there and done that. The last thing he is right now, is jaded. He finds joy in sharing his music with the masses and there’s nothing more he can ask for as his job takes him to amazing places. Ferry reveals that the most epic festival he has played at has to be Tomorrowland — Why? Because from the stage set-up right down to the bins, everything is the same.

We were fortunate enough to speak to the talented Krewella trio, who let us in on what their spirit animals are. Yasmine revealed that hers was a sloth – a slow-moving creature. This is surprising considering how energetic and hard their music sounds. Krewella hit all the right beats that night by belting out many heart-attack inducing dub-step beats, and of course, how could they end their set without playing their popular hit, “Alive”.

To end off the hard-hitting night, Heineken made use of the naturally-illuminating morning sky to light up the dance-reflective dance floor. The visual ending to the ZoukOut festivities this year was mind-blowingly awesome.
