Sub-Sonic’s Lineup Is Riot-Worthy

Ready for a weekend you’ll never forget? Here’s a pre Camp Symmetry gig you don’t want to miss. (We’re dead serious.)

The countdown to Camp Symmetry happening on the 2 Nov 2013 at Gardens by the Bay, started months back but the Popspoken team is also looking forward to some ‘pre-festival’ goodness to prepare us for the actual day. Here comes Fred Perry and their vision to not only ‘educate’ us on what good music should sound like but also spread some subculture love!

Expect to discover new music as Sub-Sonic Live returns on Nov 1, taking over Offside (2 Whitley Road), a 30,000 square feet space under the Thomson flyover. The futsal venue will be transformed into a subterranean enclave made up of three performance areas, each distinct in its musical programming, running the gamut from intimate acoustic performances to angular post-rock dischord to disco soul food.

This year’s lineup sees the likes of post-progressive outfit Anechois (We miss you Justin!), 14 year-old singer-songwriter These Brittle Bones a.k.a Chris Jones, experimental outfit sub:shaman and their collab with HORNS, international guest from the US Ra Ra Riot and a ton of other talented artists! Here is a teaser of what to expect from the three acts we are most excited about.

Hailing from Syracuse, New York, chamber pop act Ra Ra Riot makes their Singapore debut with an exclusive guest performance at Sub-Sonic Live. With the release of their 3rd album ‘Beta Loveʼ, the band is best known for their too-hard-to-not-dance-along indie pop tunes and electrifying live performances which Spin.com once described as “one of the best young bands weʼve heard in a really long time”. Expect waves of good vibes that will leave you wanting more from them at Camp Symmetry the next day!

Pronounced as “an-echo-is”, ANECHOIS is a word play on the term ‘anechoicʼ, often associated with sound engineering, which refers to a room that does not echo. The post-progressive rockers take their music as serious as their name suggests. Describing their sound as “inventive with technicality from 1960s to 1970s psychedelia to modern progressive metal”, ANECHOIS is currently working on their second EP after a successful five-track EP ‘A Shadow of A Soundʼ which we recommend to pick up. (Yes, it is that good.)

The all-rounded post-rock outfit, sub:shaman, is made up of members from several bands including Pleasantry, the now defunct Amateur Takes Control, Paris In The Making just to name a few. A myriad of groovy, chaotic and dark soundscapes derived from influences from the likes of Mars Volta and Omar Rodriguez, the band who is always out to surprise their audience, will introduce a first time ever collaboration with 4-piece brass collective, HORNS at the upcoming Sub-Sonic Live.

If you don’t think this gig is worth hitting up, we don’t know what to say anymore. But maybe we could make your life a little sweeter by telling you that this gig is totally free, no cover charge whatsoever, just bring enough cash and friends to purchase some booze and chill while listening to stellar music.
