Singaporean LGBT Film To Be Screened in Europe

Singaporean director Leanna “Alex” Siow’s latest LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender)-themed film, What’s Your Sign, has been selected for screening in the 2015 Belgian film festival, Holebikort.

The seven-minute long film was written and directed by Alex in 2013. It is about two friends who use sign language to check out other women. The playful and heart-warming film then goes on to show what happens when they get caught in the act doing so.

The short film, which was chosen from more than 150 submissions, will be screened together with four other entries at the festival on November 21st. It will also be shown on PinkScreens, a film club in Brussels. The cast includes Vanessa Born, Hillary Back and Caroline Whitney Smith.

Last year, What’s Your Sign won an audience choice award for the Pittsburg Reel Q Film Festival. It has since been screened at more than 20 film festivals around the world, and is currently in distribution in France and United Kingdom.

The film was produced by Rebecca Rebby Kern and designed by Reese Mortis. Besides What’s Your Sign, Alex is also known for her previous films, Colours of Silence and Swelter.
