Fringe World 2020 features a kaleidoscope of activities and performances that will help you channel your inner child. A high-octane festival of music, comedy, theatre, dance and more, it is a yearly affair that has become a mainstay in Perth since its inception in 2011. The next edition that has activities for adults and fun for the family family will be held from 17 January to 16 February 2020 in Perth, just 5 hours away from Singapore.
With over 700 shows across more than 150 venues, it will offer a much-needed escape from the drudgery of reality, injecting major doses of laughter and levity into your existence for a brief moment in time. Not to mention, it gives you a reason to explore the outback and sunsets at Cottesloe Beach, yet Western Australia is close enough so that you won’t have to endure butt cramps on the plane.
- You’ll be immersed in the world of burlesque.
Fulfil your non-PG fantasies with the endless line-up of burlesque performances. A sensual experience that you don’t get to witness much in Singapore, burlesque goes beyond a simple striptease act. It’s a type of variety show that involves parodies, slapstick comedy, and songs. Don’t miss Bubble Show for Adults Only, which marries physical theatre with bubble artistry, or Blue Water Vaudeville, an underwater micro cabaret that serves as a filler between shows.
- You’ll laugh yourself silly with the kookiest of comedy acts.
Get your comedy fix from George Zacharopoulos, a UK-based Greek comedian who regularly performs to sold-out crowds in Australia. If you’re into hip-hop and the likes of Reggie Watts, you’ll love MC Hammersmith’s improvised hip-hop comedy sets. Akmal Saleh, a renowned Aussie favourite, will also be delivering one-hour shows at Fringe World 2020 that will have you rolling on the floor by the time he’s done.
- The plethora of circus acts will transport you to a surreal, bygone era.
It’s like Cirque du Soleil on steroids at Fringe World 2020. Besides the theatre, comedy and musical acts, the festival will also play host to contortionists, acrobats, magicians and jugglers, who will make you want to run away and join a circus.
Get ready to have your mind blown by Fuego Carnal, an award-winning crowd favourite filled with jaw-dropping stunts, pyrotechnics, and exotic choreography.
- There’s also plenty of other intriguing highlights that’ll promise a world of fun.
Rabbit Hole VR, for instance, offers a virtual reality experience with a slew of mini games in a world where you’re a member of a cyber workforce.
Rub shoulders with your favourite Disney characters in drag, and unleash your inner goth as you step into a steampunk realm of vampires and monsters at Freaky Little Creatures, an interactive art exhibition. The festival also features a Harry Potter-themed escape room, and a scavenger hunt that doubles as a next-level, interactive performance.
Intrigued, but hesitant to book that air ticket? Here’s the cherry on the cake. You could win an all-expenses paid trip to Perth for two by taking part in this contest that runs till 10 December 2019. Submit your quirkiest, most daring escape plans for each scenario. Contest is open to Singaporeans only.
