[UPDATE: January 1, 2014]

Code Of Law will premiere January 13 (Monday), 8pm according to trailers released by MediaCorp Channel 5 on New Year’s Day. Point Of Entry premiered on December 26 and shows regularly on Thursdays at 8pm.

It’s always nice to see returning Singapore television series in an era where Mediacorp’s English-language free-to-air Channel 5 notoriously ends television shows after just a few seasons (remember that fantastic drama series, The Pupil?) or even just a short one-season run (looking at you, Parental Guidance).

We’ve seen MediaCorp grant chances to extend runs for series such as newsroom comedy show The Noose and we are hoping this trend continues with two dramas that are acclaimed in their own ways: while criminal law show Code Of Law‘s first season garnered critical acclaim for its sterling script courtesy of producer Lee Thean-jeen, immigrations action thriller Point Of Entry has garnered commercial acclaim for being the highest-rated Channel 5 show in recent years, even beating The Noose in ratings.

Now, both shows are returning to our television screens, according to Instagram photos posted by actors of both shows.

Returning cast member Keagan Kang posted this photo on his Instagram account in late July, showing the team gathering for a script discussion:

Actor Joshua Lim is set to join the cast of Code Of Law for its second season. He took this Instagram shot of him getting involved in a fight scene. (Which, is so typical of a Singapore drama.)

Point of Entry, which took an estimated $2 million to produce, has been canned by critics in its previous seasons but its commercial success has spurred on the production team headed by producer S Deakarajan to produce a fourth season.

Channel 8 actor Darryl Yong will be trying his hand at acting in n English drama by joining the cast of Point of Entry. He posted this photo on his Instagram account, flanked by returning cast members such as Jaymee Ong and Ya Hui:

Devarajan Varadarajan, who earned an honourable mention at the 2012 Asian Television Awards for his role as Dynesh in Point Of Entry’s third season, will also reprise his role this season. He posted this shot on his Instagram account along with someone whom you might find familiar:

Yup, that’s right: new-to-Singapore actress Liv Lo (who also happens to be the girlfriend of television personality Henry Golding) will make her television debut in the show. She will play Sophie Thomas, a crime investigator in Team Epsilon.

Code Of Law and Point Of Entry join the stable of new shows that have debuted on the telly such as HBO screening its first made-in-Asia series Serangoon Road. It will remain to be seen if a show can stretch past a certain number of seasons and replicate past successes of long-running shows like Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd and Under One Roof.

Season 2 of Code of Law premieres January 2014 while Season 4 of Point of Entry premieres December 2013, on MediaCorp Channel 5.
