Just when we thought that days of animal superiority and ruling were over, director Rupert Wyatt conjures up a new installment for the Planet of the Apes series.
This film however, is not based on the original or most recent Planet of the Apes installment. It is set in present day San Francisco and tells the story of a scientist (James Franco) who is formulating a cure for Alzheimer’s by testing it on apes. The typical storyline of how apes want to rule the world as they grow more intelligent and intellectual than human beings. They are after all, our origin.
Tom Felton (Harry Potter) and Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) also star in this new-age film, which is brought to you by Weta Digital, the visual effects company behind James Cameron’s Avatar.
We’re pretty psyched about this film because well, it’s James Franco! Fanatic tendencies aside, the movie looks pretty interesting and though the concept of apes taking over the world is nothing new, I’m pretty sure that they’re going to compensate it with awesome visual and sound effects. The apes look scarily realistic, don’t ya think?
Rise of the Planet of the Apes is set to be released on August 5th 2011.
