Scream Awards 2011 – Highlights and Winners

“What’s up Anna Paquin? Meet my +1.”

How adorable can Chloë Grace Moretz get?!

Spike TV’s annual Scream Awards honours the best of horror, sci-fi and fantasy flicks.

This year’s “twisted carnival” theme packed some crazy costumes and plenty of good-looking starlets. The fact that Spike TV’s website  had already announced all results prior to the award show made it slightly disappointing. (That kinda thrill of not knowing who’s going to win in an award show should never be deprived!)

Still, we’re more or less satisfied with the overall winners. Here are some things we picked up on this crazy award show.

Highlights

The event kicks off with Total Recall star Colin Farrell reciting a very adorably cheeky (and self-written) poem for Best Scream Hero, Robert Downey Jr. An epic tribute to such an iconic man.

RDJ embracing his heroism

American Horror Story‘s Dylan McDermott is looking sharp as he presents Best Thriller to Bradley Cooper for Limitless.

Amber Heard looking lovely and beautiful in Dolce & Gabbana

Despite The Playboy Club‘s recent cancellation, bombshell Amber Heard (catch her in The Rum Diary soon) is looking all smiles as she presents the award for Best Supporting Actor to Game of ThronesPeter Dinklage, who also won an Emmy this year for Outstanding Supporting Actor (Drama).

Dry-humoured and oddly hilarious Tommy Lee Jones in Captain America is still our pick though!

Forget Taylor Lautner. Here's resident werewolf Joe Manganiello

Fringe hottie Anna Torv very gladly presents the award for Breakout Performance Male to stud of the year and True Blood‘s resident werewolf, Joe Manganiello. This is legit.

Black Swan's Darren Aronofsky giving quite a heartwarming speech

The elegant and gorgeous Mary Elizabeth Winstead presents Darren Aronofsky with Best Director for masterpiece Black Swan.

The very beautiful Kate Beckinsale in Julien Macdonald

Underworld: Awakening is coming up in January 2012 and Kate Beckinsale has the bod to show for it. Looking all elegant and poised, Beckinsale introduces the Ultimate Villain – none other than the heavy-breathing Darth Vader.

George Lucas then surprises everyone midway and playfully hands the award to the legendary Star Wars villain.

A brand new clip from Paranormal Activity 3 plays right after.  The movie undoubtedly looks promising and early reviews have highly commended it.

Also, Piranha 3DD‘s teaser trailer comes to light after the award for Most Memorable Mutilation is given out to the girl who was scalped alive by a motorboat in Piranha 3D! Although we thought that the “Reverse Bear-Trap” for Saw 3D: The Final Chapter and “Transformation Into a Swan” in Black Swan deserved special mention as well.

We see some Planet Terror going on with Ving Rhames. After the mild success of Piranha 3D last year, we’re actually looking forward to more bloodbaths this sequel. Double the terror and uhh.. double the Ds, anyone?

The Ultimate Scream goes out to Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 with Daniel Radcliffe, (who’s also  deemed Best Fantasy Actor), receiving it from the dauntless Samuel L. Jackson.

A huge tribute to the Harry Potter franchise was held at Lincoln Center, New York where a trailer for Radcliffe’s upcoming horror film The Woman In Black was also showcased.

Adorable Chloe Moretz

Fearless Hit-Girl Chloë Moretz receives awards for Best Horror MovieLet Me In as well as Best Horror Actress under the same movie.

Abrams and Saldana appreciating each other

The breathtakingly beautiful Zoe Saldana hands out the award for Best Science Fiction Movie to JJ Abrams, director of Super 8. Definitely one of the most well-deserved awards for the night.

Most Anticipated Movie goes to The Dark Knight Rises where Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anne Hathaway accept the honour with sweet (and comedic) speeches.

Veteran Nicolas Cage claims the Maverick Award from the astounding Quentin Tarantino. No comments.

Pee-Wee Herman is honoured with the Visionary Award. If you’re a true 90′s kid then you’ll have no trouble recalling this bizarre fella and his  extremely disturbing companion a.k.a the talking genie head in a jar (Jambi the Genie). We don’t know about visionary but  the dude gives us the creeps!

Other Winners

Some awards not presented that night include Best Fantasy Movie for X-Men: First Class and Best Cameo for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine under the same movie. I say they got these spot on.

Black Swan was clearly on par with Harry Potter that night as Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis nabbed awards for Best Fantasy Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively.
