MTV Movie Awards 2011 Roundup!
The MTV Movie Awards kicked off Monday morning and Popspoken was honoured to be invited by Starhub to enjoy a screening of the awards show with bloggers from all over the region!
Before we proceed, you can view the predictions of the winners we did some time ago here.
As you might have noticed, the winners were all DIFFERENT. Wait, different is not the word. The word is TWILIGHT. Yes, Twilight was the big winner of the night, sweeping 5 awards including the coveted Best Male/Female and Best Movie!
I don’t know about you, but when the winners were announced, there was a repeated sigh in the room. One thing’s for sure : Bloggers from the region didn’t want Twilight to dominate.
In fact, we were so excited to report on the different winners, but halfway through the show, it felt as though there should just be a template that we could have so we can just put what category Twilight won.
Since there is no discussion about the winners is needed, let’s move on to the awards show shall we?
Hosted by Jason Sudeikis, the show was mercilessly hilarious. It was so funny I saw people choking on their drinks. I can’t remember the Movie Awards being this funny in a while, oh wait last year’s show was Chelsea Handler. Ok that explains.
Don’t believe me? Here are some of the quotes that got us gagging :
1) “Welcome to the MTV Movie Awards Live, from Lady Gaga’s bedroom apparently.”
2) “Of course MTV Stands for Music Televison, in case you forgot. I’m talking to you MTV Producers”
3) ”My heart says Jacob, my weenier says Edward”
4) ” Congrats to Emma Stone for acting like a Canadian Hooker in Easy A”
5) “Look! He spent 127 hours in this boulder!”
6) “You gotta skinny Seth Rogen, and a flexible asian” -singing his song about Green Hornet
7) “Ryan Reynolds and someone we believe is the real Blake Lively” -taking a hit at the recent nude scandal.
What can we say Jason is a natural! His jokes are biting but funny as hell!
One thing that we noted was despite the ongoing humorous tone, there was an influx of cursing. GUYS, KIDS STILL WATCH THIS SHOW OK. I mean yeah the word F**K is a norm, but not for the kids. Actually, it might be a norm since they wanna get Chocolate Wasted anyways.
The audience were treated to a clip from the upcoming Harry Potter movie! The clip looked like…a Harry Potter movie. I don’t think there are other ways to explain it, or the other Harry Potter films.
A clip for Spielberg’s upcoming blockbuster Super 8 was also premiered, and it was reminiscent of War of the Worlds! Perhaps a cross of that and 28 Weeks Later, but the cause of the attacks is still unknown. Is there an Alien Invasion? Zombie Infestation? Did Bieber win another jaw dropping moment award?
Rest assured, our jaws definitely dropped when Bieber snagged that award.
Overall, it was a typical awards show from MTV -fun, random and fully predictable. But hey, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t entertaining! We can’t wait for Twilight to be over so we can finally have ideal winners. It’s ok mods, just ONE MORE YEAR.
